Search for Australian Political Parties in the Australian Government and Politics Database

Australian political parties play a critical role in maintaining parliamentary support for Australian governments and in providing choices for voters at elections. This database contains details of the votes won and seats gained by Australian political parties which have contested commonwealth, state and territory elections since 1890. (See notes below)

Browse a list of all parties:

To browse all parties listed in the database, click on 'Start Search' without entries

Search by party name

Use the pulldown list to select a party name OR;

Search by word in a party name

Enter a word in the party name box

Search by date

To see the parties contesting elections in a particular time period, pick the date (or dates) defining the time period

Search by party type

Use the pulldown list to select one of eight party types (see Glossary entry 'party type')

Search by parliament/geographical unit

Click on one of the radio buttons to limit your search to a particular parliament and geographical unit (for states and territories this includes House of Representatives and Senate contests in that state/territory)
